Your privacy on Mytalu Under 18
This page tells you what we know about you, who can see it, and what you can do about it. If any of it is hard to understand, read it with your parent or guardian.
What we know about you
To give you your own Mytalu account, we keep:
- your name, birthday, and the photo of you and the birth certificate your grown-up sent us;
- your email, phone number and @TaluTag;
- the money you get, send, save and spend, and your saving pots;
- which phone you use, and when you sign in;
- friends from your contacts who are already on Mytalu, but only if you choose to look for them. Your phone sends us secret codes, not your friends' names or numbers.
We never know where you are. Your password, your PIN and your face or fingerprint stay secret, even from us.
Who can see it
- Your parent or guardian can see your balance and your payments.
- A few people at Mytalu whose job is to check accounts and keep them safe.
- Companies that help us to send money, pay bills and run the app. They can only use it to help us.
- The Bank of Zambia, or the police, but only if the law says we must.
Strangers can't find you on Mytalu. We never sell your information, and we don't use it to show you adverts.
Keeping you safe
- When you send money or pay a bill, your grown-up says yes first. Airtime for your own phone, or for theirs, doesn't need a yes.
- If someone your grown-up doesn't know sends you money, it waits until your grown-up says it's OK.
- You can spend up to K2,000 a day, and keep up to K5,000 in your wallet.
- If you sign in on a new phone, we tell your grown-up, just in case it wasn't you.
- Never tell anyone your PIN or password, not even someone who says they work for Mytalu.
Your choices
- You can ask us what we know about you.
- You can ask us to fix something that's wrong.
- You can ask us to delete things. Some money records must be kept for a while because of the law, then we delete them.
- You choose if the app can look at your contacts.
- You can ask to close your account (in the app: Profile, then Close my account).
When you turn 18, you can move to your own grown-up Mytalu account. Then only you can see it.
Talk to a grown-up
If something feels wrong, or you have a question, talk to your parent or guardian, or another grown-up you trust.
You can also message us on WhatsApp (+260 967 727 903) or email hello@mytalu.io.
Mytalu Under 18 is run by Mytalu (Zambia) Limited, AfricaWorks, Agora Village, Lusaka. For grown-ups: the full under-18 privacy notice for parents and guardians has all the details.
